Retreats & Residencies
We welcome guests into our rhythms for rest, reflection, and creation.
Find Your Rhythm
Selah House is a sacred home for spiritual and creative transformation. Each path offers a different rhythm of rest, creation, and community.
Due to the limited number of bedrooms, there are only a few practice-based and project-based residencies per season. However, there are many other ways to connect with Selah House: consider a short-term stay through our Monk BnB, join our daily prayer rhythms, or participate in our ongoing monthly gatherings. We invite you to explore all our community has to offer.

Come stay and develop a workshop or retreat concept here, testing it in a supportive community.
Private Retreat
Not open to the public
Bring your team, collective, or circle of friends for an afternoon or a few days of rest, prayer, and creative renewal together.
How we live together
Three rhythms hold our life here: daily prayers, shared meals, and art shares. They are truly invitations. You'll see people who have lived here for years come often in some seasons and rarely in others. Sometimes you're in a season of discipline and want prayer every day. Sometimes you're deep in the work and need to miss an art share. Both are welcome.
Prayers
Three times a day. Come to any of them, whether or not you've prayed before.
Meals
Some of us share Tuesday night dinners, rotating who cooks and hosts. Last year residents co-hosted with people who live here. You're welcome at the table whether or not you ever cook.
Art shares
Where we see what everyone is making. Bring something or just come.
The one thing everyone does
We share the work of keeping the house going: cleaning, the yard, snow, and digital tasks like design and outreach. We try to match each person's work to what they're good at and enjoy.
Our Space & Community Rhythms

A Home for Artists
Inspired by the monastic way of life, our historic 1913 building provides a sanctuary for artists. It features apartments for residents, a communal third-floor attic for prayer, a library, a shared basement studio, and a backyard with a community garden and a tiny house.

Shared Life & Activities
Experience gentle structure through shared meals, Sabbath potlucks, and community BBQs. We foster creative growth through artist feedback circles, bible studies, community workshops, and access to shared tools and resources.

Communal Prayer Rhythms
Our prayers are deeply rooted in the way of Jesus, offering a spectrum of experiences from explicit Christ-centered worship to open, meditative practices. All are welcome, regardless of background, to engage at their own pace, deepen their connection to God, and explore the Divine in a way that resonates with them. Participation in these rhythms is always optional.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to be Christian to stay at Selah House?
No, you do not. We are rooted in the creative hospitality of Jesus' love. It's about holding a space where each maker, regardless of their background or beliefs, feels genuinely welcomed, valued, and free to develop their unique practices.
What does a residency cost? How is it covered?
Selah House is committed to making residencies accessible. The rent and utilities for the residencies are fully covered. Residents cover their own food.
Do I need to be an artist?
While our practice-based and project-based residencies are specifically for artists with established practices they wish to deepen, our retreat-based and Monk BnB programs are open to anyone seeking to deepen their connection to God, art, and community.
What support is available?
At Selah House, creative and relational support naturally emerges from our community life. You'll discover insight, encouragement, and inspiration woven into the relationships across all residency lengths.
Do I need a car to live at the Selah House?
While it is nice to have a car & highly recommended, especially for winter months, it is not necessary. We have bikes you can use and city public transportation is only a 10-15 min walk. You can also have groceries delivered via Instacart.
Are there any expectations or responsibilities for Selah House residents to fulfill?
For residents staying longer than two weeks, we ask everyone to contribute a few hours per week to communal living chores, such as mowing the lawn, shoveling snow, light cleaning, and yard work. There will be a list you can choose from, and this helps to create a lovely communal spirit.
